November 16, 2023 - 16 November Proclaimed Worldwide Intergenerational Fairness Day

A worldwide day of action has been proclaimed by an international network of non-partisan organisations that exist to protect the rights of younger and future generations.

16 November 2023 will see organisations from Germany, the United Kingdom, the United States, Canada, the Netherlands, Japan, Nigeria and Australia, come together to call for greater intergenerational fairness so that the interests of younger and future generations are better protected both nationally and internationally.

February 3, 2020 - Berkeley Institute for Young Americans Announces New Advisory Board

The Berkeley Institute for Young Americans, a research center at the Goldman School of Public Policy at UC Berkeley, is pleased to announce a new advisory board to help guide the Institute’s research and policy agenda. The advisors are established young leaders in government, research, and youth advocacy who bring a wealth of knowledge about the challenges young adults face in the modern economy and the policy solutions that may help offset generational inequalities.

June 5, 2019 - Poverty Among Young Adults is on the Rise

Berkeley, CA – The number of young people (ages 18-24) living in poverty has increased over the last several decades, with young adults among the most poverty-prone age groups since the onset of the Great Recession, according to a new issue brief released today by The Berkeley Institute for the Future of Young Americans (BIFYA).

April 18, 2019 - Anxiety Epidemic Brewing on College Campuses, Researchers Find

The number of 18- to 26-year-old students who report suffering from anxiety has doubled since 2008, perhaps as a result of rising financial stress and increased time spent on digital devices, according to preliminary findings released Wednesday by a team of UC Berkeley researchers.

December 12, 2018 - CA Budget Receives Strong Grades on Forecasting and Reserves Practices, but the State Falls Short on Pensions

Today the Volcker Alliance released its second annual report comparing state budgeting practices across all 50 U.S. states. The report, Truth and Integrity in State Budgeting: Preventing the Next Fiscal Crisis, grades states on a scale of A to D- across five categories that measure their ability to maintain balanced and sustainable budgets. As partners of the alliance, researchers at the Berkeley Institute for the Future of Young Americans (BIFYA) tracked California budgeting practices and found that the state is a strong performer in four of five budgeting categories, but continues to be weak in budgeting for legacy costs, specifically, pensions and retiree health care.

February 16, 2018 - Goldman School of Public Policy and the Volcker Alliance to Host Conference on State's Fiscal Outlook

The Goldman School of Public Policy at the University of California, Berkeley and the Volcker Alliance will host a half-day discussion in Sacramento on Wednesday, February 21, featuring three panels on California’s budgeting and transparency practices, the state’s unique fiscal landscape, and the fiscal challenges it w l face this year and in years to come.

On July 21-22, 2016, the Goldman School of Public Policy will bring together Millennials from across California to explore their generation’s vision for a better future in the Golden State.
